How Insurance Saved Me After I Was Robbed At Gun Point

I have a WhatsApp group where I keep up with my friend from my secondary school days. I noticed that one of us had been absent for about a week which was unusual. So I called him to know if everything was okay.

Emeka how far na. I no dey see you for the group again, I say make I make sure say everything dey okay.

“O boy you won’t believe what happened to me” he retorted. “I was robbed at gun point, my car, wallet, phones were all taken. I am using this cheap phone that doesn’t have internet features until end of month when they pay salary”.

Wow, are you kidding me? What happened?

“I left home at 5:30 am to beat the VI traffic. I opened my gate, drove out and parked in front of the gate. Then I got out and went to lock the gate. As I turned around to get into my car, I saw 3 guys with guns come out of no where. They asked for my keys, my phone and my watch. They opened the trunk and threw me inside.

The car started moving and my heart started beating so fast. I was so scared to be locked up in a trunk, coupled with the fact that I didn’t know where they were taking me. So, I started thinking about my life, wondering if this was how it would all end. I immediately rebuked the thought and started praying.

Then, after what seemed like an eternity, the car came to a stop. They opened the trunk and asked me to come down. We were at the middle of nowhere. They asked me to strip down to my boxers and it was already daylight.

As I started walking, they drove off with everything but the boxers I was wearing. When I finally got to a major road, I tried to approach people for help but people were crossing the street to the other side as they saw me approaching them. They probably thought I was a mad man. Moreover, people tend to be reluctant to help others these days.

Eventually, one old woman with a teenage guy approached me and asked if everything was okay. I narrated what happen to her and she gave me her wrapper and the guy gave me a shirt. She then gave me transport money to the nearest police station where I made a police report.

I am just thankful that I have insurance because I am not sure where I would find N2.7 million to buy another car”.

I am glad you are alive man. So the insurance company will pay to replace the car? I asked. “Yes, my insurance agent said they approved my claim today and they will pay me N‭2,430,000‬.00 as they will remove 10% of the value of the car for depreciation”. They saved me financially.

Imagine the financial ruin my friend would have been in if he didn’t have comprehensive insurance. The insurance essentially saved him. It didn’t remove the trauma of being robbed at gun point, but the insurance saved him from the financial burden. You ought to think twice about getting that comprehensive insurance.
