Why Comprehensive Insurance Is A Must Have

I went to FGC Odogbolu(Fego) and if you attended any of the Federal government colleges, you would understandthat there is a bond and camaraderie that inevitably exist amongst us.

So, when a friend called to inform me that one of us was getting married in Ibadan, it was a no-brainer that I would attend.

Another ex fegosian offered to drive to Ibadan, so he picked me up on the fateful day with his car looking sparkling new; he had just repainted the vehicle. While on Lagos Ibadan expressway, a trailer came out of no where and brushed his car, the driver didn’t even bother to stop. Prompting my friend to pull over at the nearest safe place and come down to examine his vehicle.

He realized the car had a major gash on the front fender which left him a little irritated. But, it wasn’t the overtly vexed disposition I was expecting from a guy that just got his newly repaired car hit by a truck!

When he got back into the car, I started a conversation. Pele oh, I stated,

He replied “no wahala, my insurance go cover am. Bu the sad thing be say dem just pay to fix the last damage. Moreover, I just dey comot am from the workshop yesterday and today them don jam am again.”

Hmm, So your insurance company paid for this baking and painting? I asked.

“Yes na, I get comprehensive insurance”

So they will pay for this new damage again and your renewal cost won’t go up?

“Yes, they will pay and the renewal cost won’t go up, hence, I am unperturbed”

How much do you pay?

“4% of the total value of the vehicle. So my car is worth N3 million hence comprehensive insurance is N120,000 per year. Any damage that happens to it will be covered by them. In the event of theft or fire that destroyed the car, I will be eligible to receive N3 million from them.”

Dear reader, comprehensive insurance is a must have. If you can afford N1million for a car, you can also afford another N40,000 to insure the car. If you drive in Lagos, I can assure you that you will encounter an accident, either your fault or the fault of one of our many crazy drivers.

Have you seen those danfo drivers? What about trailer drivers? Some of them drive like they are drunk, no matter how careful you are, you will surely get into some form of car accident.

Some of you are already saying “it’s not my portion.” Please leave portion out of this, this is fact and reality.  In a 365 days period, your car must get one form of accident or the other. It is not a curse; it is a guarantee.

Therefore, if you are driving in Nigeria, particularly Lagos, comprehensive insurance is a must have. You need to get insurance today!
